Have Jolly Parties and Stylish Homes!
We opened Bibelot Bee on 7th November 2015 and here we answer a few of the questions we get asked.
What was the inspiration behind setting up Bibelot Bee?
Our family business of Clock Handyman was set up in 1973 by my father and mother. At Clock Handyman we could see how much our customer's loved their homes. As we were able to source lots of lovely things for the home and seasonal goods we felt by opening a new store at the other end of town we could extend our range and reach. With this expansion Clock Handyman has been able to extend into work wear, previously sold at 59 Newborough, so we felt this was a win win for shoppers as they didn't lose another old favourite.
We needed a new name for the business as we wanted it to capture what we would be selling, and be attractive to the town's visitors. Bibelot means "trinket" or "Bauble" and Bee is essential and represents summer. Bibelot Bee will not only sell seasonal goods it will have a unique difference. It will keep a range of Christmas goods all year! For years when we go on holiday we try to find an all year Christmas shop so that we can buy a decoration. Then every year, when we decorate our tree we remember happy times and special locations. We hope visitors to Scarborough will be able to do the same and remember Scarborough the same way.
Tell us a little about your products and who they will appeal to.
We've got lots of new ranges including Fair Trade home wear, such as bedspreads, lanterns and mats. We've also got lovely message jewellery with Disney Couture and Love the Links. Flamingo Candles, nearest suppliers are Newcastle & Leeds, wax melts have been very popular appealing to all age groups: we've had a young man buying for his sisters and grandmas deciding to treat themselves! Exclusive ranges in children's toys with beautiful hand crafted toys that are gorgeous "forever" toys!
Why should shoppers pay you a visit?
It's a wonderful shopping experience. The shopper can feel like they are browsing in someone's home, as we've used furniture to give our store personality. We've also got lovely kitchen and dining ranges including the people that made Cath Kitson mugs and the gorgeous designs of Kate Alice.
What are you ambitions for your business?
We hope the people of Scarborough and its visitors will love what we have to offer and see it complements other great independent in the town. We believe adding to the mix to make Scarborough a great shopping designation which is good for the town's people. The feedback so far has been brilliant with people loving the shop and it’s quirky displays and eclectic ranges.
We love this town! My family moved here in 1973 as the seaside air was healthy. We have seen many great businesses close, and new discount or pop up shops take their place. As nice as it is to save a penny shopping we believe should be a pleasant and varied experience and so we hope by offering a departmental style store with quality, beautiful products, things you can be proud to own and to gift, we hope we compliment a growing trend in the town for quality independents.
